What is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved injectable and cosmetic treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s made up of a purified form of botulinum toxin A, which temporarily stops the facial muscles from contracting, smoothing out wrinkles and giving you the youthful appearance you’re looking for.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox works by temporarily limiting the movement of the facial muscles. The consistent movement of the facial muscles is what typically leads to fine lines and wrinkles. By blocking the signals from the nerves to the muscles, the botulinum toxin type A causes the muscles to relax and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

What Does Botox Treat?

Botox works on a number of different areas of the face and several different forms of wrinkles. It can address the following:

Botox Procedure

Then, your provider will use a thin needle to inject specific muscles with the Botox formula. The number of injections you receive will depend on the size of the treatment area and the results you’re looking for.

After treatment, you can return to your normal routine immediately.

Botox Results

After treatment, you’ll want to avoid rubbing or massaging the treatment area for the first 24 hours, but you will want to move your facial muscles around to achieve the best results. For 2-4 hours after treatment, avoid laying down and doing any strenuous activity.

The results of Botox typically take two weeks to appear, and they can last for 3-4 months. Retreatment is needed to maintain the results.
