Injectable Fillers

Injectable Fillers

Dr. Digg’s office offers a variety of dermal fillers that can address many age-related skin concerns as well as add volume to areas you may like to modify. While dermal filler treatments all add volume to specific layers of the skin, not all fillers are made from the same materials. This means it takes an expert’s eye and experience to know which injectable dermal filler procedure can help you get the smooth, wrinkle-free skin you want.

What are My Filler Options?

As mentioned, there are many different brands and formulas within each manufacturer. Dermal fillers, also sometimes called soft tissue fillers, are most commonly formulated with hyaluronic acid, a compound produced naturally by your body that attracts water to the skin that appears as voluminous, youthful-looking skin that has few wrinkles.

However, in recent years, new FDA-approved dermal fillers have come to the market that seek to expand the usefulness of injectable dermal fillers by stimulating collagen, for example, in addition to physically adding volume.

Restylane Family of Dermal Fillers

Restylane, Restylane Lyft®, Restylane Kysse®, Restylane Silk, and Restylane Refyne and Defyne are all members of the Restylane product family. Each type is a clear gel formula made of hyaluronic acid, formulated to act as your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid. Restylane products are made with NASHA© or XpresHAn technology, which gives them a unique particle size for superior results.

All products in this line produce results instantly by visibly reducing moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, many can also be used to add fullness to lips, and some can even help improve the fullness of the back of the hands.

Juvederm Dermal Fillers

Juvéderm is another gel filler that doctors use to fill in depressions created by wrinkles around your mouth and nose. After one treatment, patients can achieve soft and natural-looking results that last up to a year. Juvéderm is manufactured using “Hylacross” technology, which creates the signature smooth-consistency gel. This filler is infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment.

Juvederm is typically used to treat smile lines, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and vertical lip lines. Juvederm Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC can also add fullness to thin lips.

Juvederm Voluma is a filler injected deeper into the upper cheeks to lift the facial skin and (as you may have guessed) add volume. This softens the lines around the cheeks and lower eye area while addressing sagging skin by adding volume to the top of the cheekbones. It has also been referred to as a “non-surgical facelift.” In fact, in a clinical study, patients reported looking up to five years younger at six months after treatment with Juvederm Voluma. Results from Juvederm Voluma are proven to last up to two years in the cheek area, making it one of the longest-lasting facial fillers.

Radiesse

What makes Radiesse unique is that not only does it physically lift and fill the treatment area like other dermal filler procedures, but it also has the ability to provide lost structure and stimulate the body’s natural collagen production.

Radiesse is composed of microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), the same material that is a major component of bone and teeth. Radiesse is used for deeper corrections such as facial contouring, fold improvement, scar correction and lip augmentation. As such, this treatment is not recommended for fine lines in the face, for example. Results from Radiesse can last anywhere from six months to a year.

Downtime & Side Effects of Dermal FIller Injections

Injectable hyaluronic acid fillers continue to be popular because of their minimal recovery time compared to more dramatic options with plastic surgery. In general, side effects such as swelling, redness, and bruising may take about a week to disappear. You should be able to easily cover any bruising with makeup if needed.

After treatment, you may have a small degree of pain and swelling that can be improved by icing the treated area. Treated areas may also feel itchy or lumps may appear, which are also temporary. If any side effects last longer than two weeks, contact our office for an evaluation.
