Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Our skin’s tone and texture can change as we age, resulting in unwanted pigmented spots, rosacea, and more. If you are bothered by the look or feel of your skin and would like to treat uneven skin tone, the IPL photofacial may be a good option for you. Patients can experience more youthful, evenly toned and textured skin with IPL photofacial treatments.

What is an IPL Photofacial?

An intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial is a treatment to improve the color and texture of the skin on the face, neck, hands, and chest. It employs short blasts of high-intensity light to create rejuvenated skin that is more even in texture and tone.
Prior to your IPL treatment, you will be asked to avoid direct sunlight to prevent tanning or burning. During your treatment, you may feel a slight warming sensation and your skin may appear slightly swollen or red, which is a normal reaction. Treatments are quick, usually taking about 30-60 minutes to complete. The number of treatments needed to see optimal results will depend on your skin. Dr. Diggs will personalize a treatment plan tailored to your goals.

What Skin Concerns Can It Treat?

• Pigmented lesions
• Freckles
• Rosacea
• Vascular lesions
• Uneven skin texture
• Age spots

Downtime & Side Effects

Following your IPL photofacial you may feel as if you have a sunburn, but ice packs can help with any discomfort. Redness and swelling should dissipate after a few hours. You will be advised to avoid exfoliations, scented lotions, and aggressive scrubbing. Freckles and sunspots that were treated may initially get darker in color before they flake off within 1-2 weeks.
