Lip fillers are a great way to achieve plumper, smoother, and softer lips. When scheduling a lip filler appointment at CosmedicDerm, it can be helpful to know what to expect during treatment.
What Are Lip Fillers?
At CosmedicDerm, we offer several types of lip fillers from Juvéderm and Restylane. These are hyaluronic acid fillers that work naturally with the existing hyaluronic acid in your skin. Hyaluronic acid keeps the skin moisturized, and it has a subtle plumping effect. Lip fillers can enhance the size of the lips, correct asymmetry, and give your lips a beautiful, dewy glow.
Lip Filler Consultation
Our professionals will listen to your concerns and take you through various options. We will introduce you to our practice and answer any of your questions about the process. The consultation will us understand the following issues:
- Your desired lip appearance
- Eligibility to receive lip fillers
- The best lip filler for your skin
We strive to create personalized treatment plans that meet each patient’s unique goals and treatment needs. Your medical history will be carefully assessed to make sure that you are a good candidate for lip fillers.
The Do’s and Don’ts Before Your Injection
We advise you to avoid taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen for two days before treatment. Avoiding these medications will help manage bruising and swelling after injection. We will also recommend drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. When you are properly hydrated, it can help quicken your healing process, as it improves the skin’s elasticity. Lastly, we will advise you to avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine. These substances can slow down the healing process and minimize the filler’s effects.
Numbing Period
First, a numbing cream will be applied to your lips to minimize pain during the injections. We will also inform you on how the injection is given so that you can feel comfortable during your treatment. You may also see the injectors taking measurements of your lips, marking them, or asking you to move your lips. These steps are done to ensure good placement of the filler and natural-looking results.
Injection Stage
When all the measurements have been established, the numbing cream is removed, and your lip area is sterilized. During injection, we inform you of the areas that the needle will affect to make you prepared. The injections only take 15-20 minutes.
Results and Recovery
Once your lip injections are complete, you can return to almost all of your normal activities. However, we recommend that patients avoid strenuous activity and sun exposure for 48 hours to minimize swelling and discomfort. Over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses can help reduce swelling and bruising. The results will develop after 1-2 weeks and last 6-12 months.
