The Do’s and Don’ts Before Your Injection

We advise you to avoid taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen for two days before treatment. Avoiding these medications will help manage bruising and swelling after injection. We will also recommend drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. When you are properly hydrated, it can help quicken your healing process, as it improves the skin’s elasticity. Lastly, we will advise you to avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine. These substances can slow down the healing process and minimize the filler’s effects.

Numbing Period

First, a numbing cream will be applied to your lips to minimize pain during the injections. We will also inform you on how the injection is given so that you can feel comfortable during your treatment. You may also see the injectors taking measurements of your lips, marking them, or asking you to move your lips. These steps are done to ensure good placement of the filler and natural-looking results.

Injection Stage

When all the measurements have been established, the numbing cream is removed, and your lip area is sterilized. During injection, we inform you of the areas that the needle will affect to make you prepared. The injections only take 15-20 minutes.

Results and Recovery

Once your lip injections are complete, you can return to almost all of your normal activities. However, we recommend that patients avoid strenuous activity and sun exposure for 48 hours to minimize swelling and discomfort. Over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses can help reduce swelling and bruising. The results will develop after 1-2 weeks and last 6-12 months.
